Roethlisberger has played in the tournament every year since 2004, but in the last year has twice been accused of sexual assault. One of the alleged victims said the assault took place at a Tahoe hotel-casino during the 2008 ACC.
The NFL has suspended Roethlisberger for the first six games of the 2010 season for violating the league's personal conduct policy.
Jenn Boyd, a spokesperson for the tournament, wrote in an e-mail that she could not comment on whether tournament owner NBC has invited Roethlisberger this year, and said it is policy to only report players have confirmed their attendance. As of Tuesday, Roethlisberger was not on the commitment list.
Maddux, a Las Vegas native and a shoo-in Hall of Famer when he becomes eligible in 2014, will be making his first appearance.
Smoltz, who spent the majority of his career with Maddux on the Braves' staff, played in 2000 while he was recovering from an injury. The Braves gave him permission to play in the tournament. Smoltz tried to qualify for the U.S. Open but did not advance past the first round of qualifying.
Other first-timers scheduled to play in the 21st annual ACC this year are Vikings defensive end Jared Allen, Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel, Warriors guard Stephen Curry, Chiefs coach Todd Haley, NFL All-Pro safety Rodney Harrison, Notre Dame football coach Brian Kelly, Team USA hockey captain Jamie Langenbrunner, former pitcher Mark Mulder, pro skateboarder Ryan Sheckler and Jazz guard Deron Williams.
