Woodward Beijing Grand Opening May 15

Woodward Beijing, a 72,000-square-foot indoor and outdoor facility featuring ramps and bowls in China’s Daxing district, has announced it will hold its grand opening celebration May 15, with Tony Hawk, Ryan Sheckler, Pierre-Luc Gagnon, and many more high-profile athletes expected to attend.

“Beijing, China (April 13, 2010)—This spring, Woodward Beijing will celebrate its grand opening by welcoming some of the world’s top action sports athletes for a celebration in China on May 15. Located in the beautiful rural Daxing district, Woodward Beijing is built on a four-star resort property that has been converted into 410 acres of indoor and outdoor ramps and bowls, with a gigantic outdoor skate plaza as the centerpiece.

The VIP invited-guest grand opening will include a vert demo, best trick contest and a traditional ribbon-cutting ceremony. The following day, May 16, the camp will be open to the general public. Many of the world’s best action sports athletes are traveling to China for the event, including: Tony Hawk, Ryan Sheckler, Sandro Dias, Neal Hendrix, Pierre- Luc Gagnon, Dan Murphy, Zered Bassett, Joey Brezinski, Ryan Decenzo, Juergen Horwarth, Curren Caples, Brandon Biebel, Renton Millar, David Loy, Jaws, Andrew Cannon, Jimmy Carlin, Tom Asta, Chase Hawk, Chase Dehart, Dakota Roche and Olympic gymnast and “Dancing with the Stars” contestant Shawn Johnson.

“The Woodward Experience will provide a great opportunity to introduce Chinese youth, and international students living in China, to new activities that stimulate creative thinking,” says Zhou Qiang. “In addition, we also anticipate that the customer base will grow to include many action sports enthusiasts from all over the Pacific basin, including Japan, Korea, Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand.”

Woodward Beijing is the first international property in the U.S.-based Camp Woodward roster. For over forty years, the original Woodward Pennsylvania location has been one of the premiere training facilities for both young amateurs and professional action sports and gymnastics athletes, including many Olympians. In recent years the company has built additional camps in California and Colorado, and expanded to include surfing, snowboarding and skiing and audio/visual and music education programs in Beijing, California and Pennsylvania. Woodward Beijing will also offer English and Chinese language classes.

Highlights of Woodward Beijing include:

· A 32,000 square foot outdoor skate plaza designed and built by California Skateparks with oversight and consultation from Woodward Brand Manager and pro skater Neal Hendrix. The entire skate plaza will offer something for everyone from beginners at the camp to visiting pros. Filled with skateable ledges, rails, hubbas, euro gaps, bank-to-bank kickers, granite manual pads, steep banks and more, the park is one of the best designs California Skateparks has ever created.


· A 40,000 square foot indoor facility featuring two different street courses with rails, banks, hubbas, and pyramids; a multi-level mini ramp; a wooden bowl with a spine and deep end; foam and resi pits; and a giant vert ramp with resi and foam pits attached.

· Programs throughout the year for students, including: skateboarding, BMX freestyle, inline skating, graphic design, video production and labs, digital photography, dry-land snowboarding and skiing, music lessons and a music recording studio, cheer and cheer tumbling, and Chinese or English language classes.

· Additional activities such as a climbing wall, ropes courses, create-a-skate, golf, archery, soccer, volleyball, bowling, ping pong, karaoke, billiards and swimming.
