Dew Tour Hits Portland August 12-15

SHAUN WHITE, RYAN SHECKLER, DAVE MIRRA AND BRETT BANASIEWICZ SET TO COMPETE AT DEW TOUR’S WENDY’S INVITATIONAL, AUGUST 12-15 AT PORTLAND’S ROSE QUARTER

Event to Feature Live Performance by Neon Trees and Paper Tongues on Friday

Burr Ridge, Ill. - August 9, 2010 - The Dew Tour returns to Portland, Ore. for the sixth consecutive year for the Wendy’s Invitational, August 12-15 at the Rose Quarter. Neon Trees and Paper Tongues will co-headline the MTV2 Rock N Jock Concert Series at the Rose Quarter on Friday, August 13 from 9:00-11:00pm. Grounds Pass tickets are now available for just $15.

The Wendy’s Invitational will kick-off this Friday with BMX Dirt Finals followed by a concert with Neon Trees and Paper Tongues. Saturday will feature Skate Park Finals and BMX Vert Finals. The weekend will conclude on Sunday with Shaun White and the Skate Vert Finals, BMX Park Finals and freestyle motocross will complete the day with a step-up and best whip competition.

The star-studded field of athletes competing in this weekend’s Dew Tour Wendy’s Invitational includes reigning Dew Cup champions, Olympic gold medalists and X Games 16 gold medalists. Among them are:

  • Shaun White (skate vert): two-time Olympic gold medalist, summer and winter Dew Cup champion, X Games gold medalist
  • Pierre-Luc Gagnon (skate vert): ‘08 Dew Cup champion, X Games 16 gold medalist
  • Ryan Sheckler (skate park): Three-time Dew Cup champion and X Games 16 gold medalist
  • Garrett Reynolds (bmx park): Defending Dew Cup champion and recent X Games gold medalist
  • Dave Mirra (bmx park): BMX legend and second in last season’s Dew Cup standings
  • Brett Banasiewicz (bmx park and dirt): BMX rising star and 1st place BMX Dirt finisher at last month’s Nike 6.0 BMX Open

In skate vert, Shaun White will battle it out with Pierre-Luc Gagnon, along with vert veterans Bucky Lasek, Bob Burnquist, Sandro Dias and Andy Macdonald. Ryan Sheckler will look to secure a win in skateboard park against the likes of Greg Lutzka, Paul Rodriguez and Chaz Ortiz.

Garrett Reynolds hopes to take home the Dew Cup again in 2010 and will compete against comeback-kid Mike Spinner, veteran Dave Mirra and fellow X Games 16 gold medalist (BMX park) Daniel Dhers. Out on the dirt course, 2009 BMX Dirt Dew Cup Champion Ryan Nyquist is set to face Dennis Enarson, TJ Ellis, and 15-year-old rising star, Brett Banasiewicz. Banasiewicz has been dominating the BMX scene in both park and dirt since his debut in 2009. Jamie Bestwick is ready for a six-peat in BMX Vert, holding onto the longest winning streak in Dew Tour history.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday Action Zone tickets cost $100 for adults and children and provide access to priority reserved seating for all finals. Additionally, Action Zone ticket-holders receive Dew Tour merchandise, a behind-the-scenes tour, athlete autograph session, merchandise discount coupon, Fast Pass access into all venues and interactive areas and cold Mountain Dew. Reserved seating tickets are $35 for children and adults and guarantees seating for all finals competitions. Grounds Pass tickets cost $15 for adults and $7.50 for children. In its sixth year, the top athletes in the world will take part in the 2010 Dew Tour, all competing for the highly coveted Dew Cup that will be awarded at season’s end to champions in each of the five disciplines, culminating at the Dew Tour Championships at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. The 2009 Dew Cup champions include Chris Cole (skateboard park), Bucky Lasek (skate vert), Garrett Reynolds (BMX park), Jamie Bestwick (BMX vert) and Ryan Nyquist (BMX dirt).
